Inmates at Cipinang Attack Wardens

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Four wardens at the Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta were attacked by dozens of inmates this week. The wardens were identified as Sungkono Bayu Aji, Subandriono, Herman and Prasuta. Bayu Aji sustained the most serious of injuries from the four attacked, as he was beaten and kicked in the head. Subandriono reported the case to Jatinegara Police in East Jakarta, adding that he had been attacked on other parts of his body. According to eyewitnesses, the attack was triggered when following an inspection of the inmates’ goods, after visiting hours. It is believed that the inmates involved in the attack included terrorism convicts, but the Justice Ministry has not been able to comment on the matter thus far.
