Pindad to Supply Electric Motors for National Car Project

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Adik Avianto Soedarsono, CEO of the state arms manufacturer PT Pindad, says the government has requested his company supply electrical motors for the national car project.

“We received the assignment yesterday from the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Ministry. We are required to manufacture the electrical motors,” said the CEO in Bandung on Friday.

Adik said that in order to meet the demand, Pindad was asked to master the technology to produce electrical motors for the national electric car project. “We are required to master the technology first. Our research and development division has been ordered to start. Today, we are still importing [the electrical motors] but we have been asked to make preparations to import the substitutes,” said the CEO.

Once Pindad masters the necessary technology, the company will be asked to produce electrical motors. Adik said that Pindad was appointed because the company has had experience in manufacturing electric generators since 1980.
