Miranda Goeltom Finally Detained
Friday, 01 June, 2012 | 21:59 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Miranda Goeltom underwent seven hours of questioning on Friday evening before Antigraft Commission (KPK) investigators decided to detain the graft suspect, for the alleged role she played in the vote-buying which led her to secure the position of Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor in 2004.
At least 30 sitting and former lawmakers have been sent to jail for receiving bribes worth nearly Rp 24 billion in the form of 480 travelers' checks to ensure Miranda's win in the elections for senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia of that year. Miranda's lawyer, Andi Simangunsong, claimed that his client had not prepared for the detention, even as media reports since early Friday morning had suggested that her detention by the KPK was imminent today.
"You could say that this [detention] came suddenly. We were not prepared. She had not even prepared any clothing or personal items to bring along with her," Andi told reporters on June 1. "None of her family members or friends as of now [9.30pm on Friday] have visited her." The detention is for a 20-day period, after which the KPK would need to file for an extension.
