Mine Workers Slam Regulation on Raw Material Exports
Monday, 28 May, 2012 | 13:35 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Solidarity for National Mine Workers (SPARTAN) has called on the government to revoke the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry decree No. 7/2012. The regulation bans mining companies from exporting raw materials starting from 2012.

Southeast Sulawesi SPARTAN presidium Abdul Rahman said the ministerial decree was a threat to mine workers.

“It’s almost certain that thousands of mining companies will stop operating and producing, leaving more than four million people unemployed,” Rahman said during a press conference at the Gallery Café in Taman Ismail Marzuki on Sunday.

Rahman added that the ministerial decree did not comply with Law No. 4/2009 on Coal and Mineral Mining. The law allows the export of mineral raw materials until 2014. The law is also expected to be a reference point for other regulations, including the ministerial decree.
