BIN Gets Involved in the Search for Ibas’ Attackers

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Director of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Marciano Norman says that he has obtained all information related to the riots that almost injured President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s youngest son and secretary-general of the Democrat Party, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, also known as Ibas.

The BIN was involved in the search for the group of perpetrators of the attack against Ibas.

“We’ve heard [about the incident]. We are investigating [the cause],” said Marciano at the state palace in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.

Marciano was reluctant to comment about whether the attackers were a group of people paid to commit the riots.

“We don’t know yet. Allow us to find more information first,” said the director.

Ibas almost fell victim to mass rage at Sultan Baabullah Airport in Ternate on Thursday morning. In addition to Ibas, Democrat Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum was also nearly injured. As a result, Anas and Ibas’ plan to inaugurate the regional caucus of the North Maluku Democrat Party was cancelled. Anas and his group were evacuated back to Jakarta.

So far, the attackers have not been identified. Witnesses’ accounts revealed that most of the perpetrators were wearing Democrat t-shirts.
