Reverse Flow for Thamrin and Pondok Indah

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Reverse flow of traffic will be enforced on Jalan
M.H Thamrin in Central Jakarta , and Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah in South Jakarta. "But we will survey and study this first before implementing anything for sure," said Director of Pold Metro (Jakarta Metropolitan Traffic Police) Senior Commissioner Dwi Sigit on May 3,2012.
According to Dwi, the two routes are the root of congestion especially during rush hours. “The system will be applied during certain hours only.” Sigit said, but did not elaborate when it will be imposed.
The reverse flow system is currently in effect in Cawang–Semanggi segment and Kebon Jeruk-Tangerang toll road. The implementation has so far been smooth, however congestion still occurs at the Kuningan intersection primarily due to the high number of cars heading to Jalan Mampang Prapatan in South Jakarta.
President Director of PT Jasa Marga (the state toll operator) Adityawarman said the contraflow system is implemented to help ease rush hour bottlenecks on toll roads within the city. Based on the company data, the restricting trucks to enter the city toll roads during morning rush hours has led to increase in the number of small vehicles entering the city toll roads by 2,4 percent.
The traffic simulation using contraflow system was officially tested by Polda Metro Jaya starting April 1, 2012.
