Jakarta Govt to Manage Sidewalks
Monday, 30 April, 2012 | 14:45 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Catharina Suryowati, Jakarta Administration Public Parks and Cemetery Division director, says that her office will organize and manage sidewalks as the city’s sidewalks are in urgent need of repair.
“Obviously the effort will require cooperation with the Public Works Division, Transportation Division and the civil service,” Catharina said at the Pedestrian Festival on Jalan Sabang Utara on Sunday. Catharina added the festival was held to remind all related parties about the importance of safe pedestrians.
Catharina said the government had encountered difficulties in widening the sidewalks. “We would like to have an 8-meter wide sidewalk to accommodate pedestrians, but it’s difficult [to achieve],” Catharina added.
