Polri Temporarily Suspends Inafis Project
Friday, 27 April, 2012 | 16:09 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Saud Usman Nasution says the police are temporarily suspending the Indonesia Automatic Finger Print Identification System (Inafis) service.
“We feel that it is necessary to propose a revision of Government Decree No. 50/2010,” Saud stated during a press conference at his office on Thursday.
Saud added the Rp42.3-billion project would be suspended for an unspecified period because in order for the project to resume, revisions related to its regulation must be completed first. “We are working as fast as we can,” Saud claimed.
The National Police expects the government to immediately revise the regulation so that no charges apply for the process, which includes taking applicants’ fingerprints. Earlier, based on Government Decree No. 50/2010, a Rp35,000-fee was applied.
