Bogor Mayor Absent in GKI Yasmin Mediation Process

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Bogor administration, represented by Mayor Diani Budiarto, was absent in the mediation process with representatives from the Taman Yasmin Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) set up by the Presidential Advisory Board (Wantimpres) and the National Security Council (Wantanas) on Thursday. “The Bogor Mayor did not show up and he asked for a rescheduling of the meeting,” member of Wantimpres on Justice and Human Rights Albert Hasibuan told TEMPO after the meeting.

Albert said Mayor Diani Budiarto claimed that the meeting coincided with the meeting for West Java mayors at his office. Bambang Gunawan, Bogor administration secretary, confirmed the schedule and said that the mayor had a very important agenda to attend. “But we promise to attend the mediation next week,” said the secretary.

Albert added that the mediation was held despite the mayor’s absence. Representatives from the Wantanas, Let. Gen. Yuniarto Harun, offered a solution by requesting the Bogor Mayor to comply with the Supreme Court ruling, remove the seal from GKI Yasmin, and build other places of worship around the church. The solution could not be passed despite approval from GKI Yasmin representatives. The solution can only be applied upon approval from the Bogor mayor.
