New Zealand Eyes Geothermal Sector

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian government has offered New Zealand investments in the geothermal sector. The collaboration was cited in a MoU signed by New Zealander Trade Minister Tim Groser and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik yesterday.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that geothermal energy development would be done within the next 5 – 10 years. New Zealand is seen as a potential partner as it has the capability to work on alternative energy.
Jero said that Indonesia has 28 geothermal points. Meanwhile, New Zealand has the capability and the technology in the geothermal sector. “We will use their expertise and technology in geothermal sector,” he said.
Tim Groser saidd that New Zealand could offer the best science and design for Indonesia’s geothermal development. “Our technology has been proven safe,” he said yesterday in Jakarta.
