TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The government has agreed to form a team to review plans to raise judges’ salary. This was mentioned in a meeting between the ministries of Finance and Administrative Reforms, the state secretariat, the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission on Thursday.
“After this, there will be a joint team led by the Supreme Court to implement the agreement,” said the Supreme Court’s chief in charge of guidance, Widayatno Sastrohardjono, in a press release.
Widayatno said he did not know who the team members would be yet. “Certainly, they will come from the ministries of Finance and Administrative Reforms, the state secretariat, the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission,” he said.
The plan to raise judges’ salary emerged after several provincial judges protested, demanding a salary raise and threatening to strike if their demand was not met. They claimed their salary has not been increased for four years. Widayatno said the team was formed because the government wanted to meet their demand.
