Suspect Incriminates Former Minister Fadillah Supari

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:National Police Headquarters spokesman Insp. Gen. Saud Usman Nasution said that the suspects in the graft case involving the procurement of health equipments during the 2005 avian flu outbreak have implicated former Health Minister Siti Fadillah Supari. She has been accused by suspects of directly appointing pharmaceutical company Indofarma in the procurement process. Due to the allegeddirect appointment by Siti, the Health Minister at that time, the state incurred Rp6.1 billion in losses.
When reporters asked whether Siti was involved in the case, Saud answered: “Yes, of course. Siti was the incumbent Health Minister at that time,” the spokesman told reporters at his office on Thursday evening.
Saud explained that the graft suspects have testified to investigators from Directorate III of the Criminal Detectives Division that Siti was involved in the direct appointment in the Rp15.5 billion project. Investigators are currently reviewing whether such decision could incriminate Siti. The investigators have questioned the former health minister who chaired during the period of 2004 to 2009 but have not declared her as suspect.
