Restrictions on Subsidized Fuel Consumption to Be Issued in May

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The government is planning to immediately issue regulations which ban personal vehicles from using subsidized fuel. “We will regulate it based on engine capacity,” said Evita Herawati Legowo, Oil and Gas director-general, on Wednesday. The policy has been scheduled to be issued next month.

Evita said that the policy is the follow up to Presidential Decree No. 15/2012. The decree specified retail prices and the consumer of certain oil fuel. The government only determined those who are eligible for subsidized fuel consumption.

Meanwhile, the classification of consumers entitled for subsidized fuel, according to Evita, will be specified in ministerial decree. “[The policy will be applied] in Java and Bali first.” The step is taken because 53 percent of subsidized fuel has been consumed by owners of personal vehicles.
