Golkar Softens Up on Closed System of General Elections
Tuesday, 27 March, 2012 | 15:32 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Golkar Party faction chairman Setya Novanto said his party shall leave the opportunity open for the implementation of a closed system in the general elections. Setya claims that Golkar is still communicating with other parties during the negotiations for the General Elections Bill. “Golkar is monitoring the development,” Setya added at the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Monday.

Setya said that both systems, open or closed, were insubstantial for his party. However, Golkar remains unmoved on the Article regarding the five percent parliamentary threshold.

Earlier, the United Development Party (PPP) also showed its support for a closed elections system. PPP Chairman Suryadharma Ali said that he is ready to support the closed system as long as the parliamentary threshold figure is not too large.
