Pertamina Anticipates Fuel Scarcities
Saturday, 10 March, 2012 | 00:13 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Makassar, South Sulawesi:State oil company Pertamina is anticipating the possibility of fuel scarcities, ahead of fuel price hikes this April. “We hope to avoid experiencing fuel scarcities following the upcoming price hikes,” said Iswahyudi, Pertamina Regional Officer for Retail Oil Fuel Sales, contacted by TEMPO on Thursday.
Therefore, Pertamina will conduct strict supervision over every public gas station in order to prevent the stations from fueling vehicles with fuel from jerry cans. “If such a transaction occurs, the buyer must show an official notification letter [from Pertamina] that allows for this,” said Iswahyudi.
Iswahyudi added that in the case fuel scarcities does occur, Pertamina has prepared for extra fuel stocks -- up to 30 percent more than Makassar’s daily average fuel demand. Makassar’s daily demand for subsidized Premium fuel reaches 700 kiloliters, and between 350 to 400 kiloliters for diesel fuels.
