PLN-Malaysia Sign Electricity Deal
Tuesday, 28 February, 2012 | 18:20 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:State-run electricity company PT PLN is collaborating with the Malaysian government in the electricity sector. PT PLN’s CEO Nur Pamudji says the electricity export-import transaction with Malaysia is expected to hit 50 – 100 megawatts (MW) by 2014.
Indonesia already imports a small amount of electricity from Malaysia. “Only about 1 MW from the micro-hydro power plant,” Nur said yesterday.
The electricity supplied to Malaysia will be taken from a steam-generated power plant in Sumatra, specifically the Mulut Tambang power plant. PLN has targeted that the 250 KV high voltage direct current electricity export will be operational by 2017.
The company’s business planning and management director, Murtaqi Syamsuddin, said the contract was signed between PLN and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) Malaysia.
