Mandiri Sekuritas To Freeze Nazaruddin’s Shares
Wednesday, 22 February, 2012 | 21:20 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Investment and securities services company Mandiri Sekuritas is planning to freeze the Garuda Indonesia shares bought by graft defendant Muhammad Nazaruddin, a man implicated in the SEA Games athletes’ village bribery scandal. The suspension will be conducted pending official request from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“If there’s an instruction from the authorities to freeze or seize [the shares], we, as financial services provider will comply,” said Febriati Nadira, Mandiri Sekuritas spokesman, on Tuesday. The seizure mechanism will comply with existing regulations.
KPK has recently declared Nazaruddin as suspect once again. The former treasurer of the ruling Democrat Party has been accused of laundering graft money he collected by purchasing Garuda Indonesia shares. Nazaruddin bought 400 million Garuda Indonesia shares in Feb. 2011.
