TEMPO Interactive, BOGOR:One person has died and eight others are missing after a wooden bridge collapsed over Bogor’s Cihideung River yesterday.
Seven others managed to fight the tough currents and reach safety.
“The SAR team, the police and the provincial government are still looking for the missing people,” Bogor Provincial Disaster Management Agency head, Yos Sudarajat, said yesterday. The victims are Eka, Ratih, Ajay, Zahra, Manah, Maesaroh, Tia, Jamal and Yuli. Six of them are small children.
Their chance of survival is low, admitted the rescue team head. “It’s been over eight hours. We could confirm they are dead,” said Tagana Bogor member, Cecep, at the site. He said the river was flowing quite strong. The rescue team has erected a net at the mouth of the river.
According to Miftahudin, 58, a local villager who also participated in the search, the public built the bridge as a shortcut to the IPB campus.
