Monday, 13 February, 2012 | 17:39 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Members from Taman Yasmin Church yesterday held a mass in front of the State Palace to protest unresolved conflict concerning the construction of their church in Bogor.
Surrounded by police members, Rev. Ujang Tanusaputra led the prayers and choir. Several leaders also gave speeches in support. The mass, which took place from 1 – 4 p.m., was followed by 50 people.
Lily Wahid, the sister of former president Abdurrahman Wahid, had the first chance to speak at the event. She said she was disappointed with the police because they had failed to protect the rights of the Christians to hold religious services.
Indonesia, she said, is a democratic country and should not impede its people from holding religious services according to their beliefs.
Singer Glenn Fredly also participated in the event, singing a song titled Pancasila Rumah Kita (Pancasila Our Home).
