Thursday, 09 February, 2012 | 21:25 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The House of Representatives (DPR) has asked the central and regional administrations to find a solution to the conflict involving the Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) Taman Yasmin. The decision was made during a meeting attended by the DPR’s Commission II, III, and VIII, and representatives from the government and the GKI.
“We have decided that the government [central and regional] must immediately settle the GKI Yasmin conflict once and for all by involving all community elements related to the matter in order to realize a safe, serene, and peaceful community environment,” said Commission II Chairman Agun Gunanjar when reading the meeting result at the DPR building on Wednesday.
Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi, representing the central government, said that the government had almost come to an agreement to settle this case in the near future. Gamawan asserted that he is ready to facilitate representatives from GKI Yasmin and the Bogor Mayor for both to find a common ground. The minister believes that the government can provide mediation outside the legal realm. “It should be completed in six months,” the minister added.
