Health Development Index Low
Tuesday, 07 February, 2012 | 17:19 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Health Ministry says the national People’s Health Development Index of 24.5 percent is low. The lowest index was found in West Sumatra with a rate of 7.81 percent.
“Provinces with an index below the national average are South Sulawesi (22.13 percent) and Banten (19.29 percent),” said Lifebuoy’s senior brand manager, Amalia Sarah Santi, quoting the ministry’s data yesterday.
Sarah said one of the factors contributing to the low index was a lack of awareness about basic hygiene.
Based on the research, one in four Indonesians does not wash their hands properly.
