TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Miranda Swaray Goeltom allegedly played a role in giving interest discount to Bank Artha Graha Internasional (BAGI). A TEMPO source in Bank Indonesia said that Miranda signed a letter of credit with the bank in July 2009 after Boediono resigned to become a candidate for vice presidential post.
TEMPO magazine issued on Monday, Feb. 6, reported that the source mentioned a meeting conducted to grant facilities for BAGI—the meeting took place on Dec. 23, 2008. The meeting was led directly by Boediono as the central bank governor and attended by Senior Deputy Governor Miranda, six other deputies, and some staff from the governor bureau and the Bank Supervision 3 Directorate, under the command of Erwin Riyanto.
Erwin, the head of the Bank Indonesia representative in Singapore at that time, proposed that BAGI was given an interest discount from 6 percent to 3.25 percent. “Erwin also proposed that the outstanding difference of interest of Rp504.21 billion, unpaid by BAGI, to be considered null,” said the TEMPO source. The discount proposal, according to the source, was supported by Miranda and Supervision Deputy Siti Fadjriah.
