Public Warned of Dengue Fever

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Director of Animal-Sourced Disease Control Rita Kusriastuti, has called on the public to be watchful of dengue fever during the current rainy season. “In this season, the population of dengue fever mosquitoes increases because there are many places for them to hatch,” she said yesterday on the phone.

Dengue fever is an acute fever caused by type 1, 2, 3 and 4 dengue viruses. The virus enters the human blood circulation through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes. The virus can interrupt the blood coagulation system and capillary blood vessels, which can lead to bleeding.

According to Rita, there is no specific medicine for the virus.

She said that common treatments include giving liquid to the body to prevent dehydration from the fever and vomiting. She suggested patients take fever drugs and rest.
