Metal Demands Increasing

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Panggah Susanto, the Trade Ministry’s Manufacture Industries director-general, said that market demands for metal is on the rise. Unfortunately, domestic metal production compiled from 313 companies was only able to meet 9.8 million tons out of the 10 million ton-demand.

As a result, some companies are forced to import products. However, the metal products import value is declining. Therefore, the government expects the national basic-metal industries in the upstream sector to grow by 18.22 percent. The triple growth is spurred by the increase in national demands for steel.
