Tempo.co Wins Second Place in Asian Digital Media Award

TEMPO Interactive, HONG KONG:Tempo.co has won an international award once again. This time, the portal won silver at the Asian Digital Media Awards in the cellular phone application category. The event was held by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).
“We’re happy that our hard work is acknowledged in Asia,” said Yosep Suprayogi, Tempo’s executive editor. “Last year we won the second place for the Best Infographic category at the same event,” he said in Hong Kong yesterday.
He said Tempo.co’s application was available for BlackBerry, iPhone and Android users. With the application, besides reading news or looking at the photo gallery, users can also become a citizen journalist. They can upload photographs or important news. In just several clicks, the reports can be immediately uploaded to Tempo.co. The application can be downloaded at http://www.tempo.co/apps/.
For the same category, first place was won by The Nation (Thailand) and The Straits Times (Singapore). Meanwhile, the bronze award was won by The Union. “The award is an acknowledgement of media organizations that develop digital innovation,” said Thomas Jacob, WAN-IFRA deputy CEO. “The winners have shown the world that they are very creative in facing the new business model,” he added.
The award was held concurrently with the Digital Media Asia 2011 conference. The event was attended by 320 participants from 31 countries.
For the newspaper website category, the first place went to Straitstime.com (Singapore), while the second place went to Manoramaonline.com (Malaysia) and Kompas.com.
The third place went to Asian Wall Street Journal or awsj.com.
