Indonesia Leads Medal Tally at SEA Games

TEMPO Interactive, Palembang, South Sumatra:Indonesia has taken the lead of the medal tally at the SEA Games with 40 gold, 29 silver and 21 bronze medals as of the third day of competition.
On Sunday, Indonesia won 17 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals. Out of the 17 gold medals, 4 gold and 2 silver medals were won in roller skating.
Gold medals were also won in canoeing (3 gold), karate (3 gold), cycling (1 gold) and synchronized diving (1 gold). Thailand is currently in second place with 20 gold medals so far.
On Sunday evening, the Garuda Indonesia Muda squad beat Thailand 3-1, with goals scored by Titus Bonai, Patrich Wanggai and Ferdinand Sinaga. Meanwhile, Thailand’s Rannachai Rangsiyo scored one goal on a penalty kick.
Indonesia is aiming to be overall winner of the XXVI SEA Games. Out of the 545 gold medals to compete for, Indonesia is eyeing for at least 155. Indonesian Sports Committee (KONI) chairman Rita Subowo says he is confident the target can be achieved.
“We sent athletes who have good chances of winning gold,” noted Rita.
